Certigrade Red Cedar Shingles were selected for re-siding this custom single-family home and detached garage, originally built in 1968 and renovated in 2008. The original ranch design invites the occupants to enjoy the beautiful natural woodland through many openings that connect the interior of the house with the yard.  The house was originally sided with cedar shingles to appear as a part of the surrounding environment, with many tall oaks, and other native vegetation.  The original cedar exterior lasted well for 40 years.

In 2008, the house and detached garage were renovated, expanding the interior living area, and re-enforcing the connection between the house and its beautiful natural surroundings with many views to the wooded backyard.  All modern exterior siding options for the house and garage were considered, including vinyl siding and cement board. Certigrade Red Cedar Shingles were finally selected for all sidewall applications. It was determined that only Certigrade Red Cedar Shingles would maintain the elegant beauty of the home and keep it visually well-connected with the woodlands.  Since the original cedar siding had lasted 40 years, we also expected the replacement cedar sidewall siding to be an excellent investment.
